Good morning!
So I surprised myself this morning and woke up 20 minutes before my 7 am alarm and felt like bouncing out of bed and starting my day. I normally have to drag myself out of bed, have my tea and breakfast before feeling alive and well. Could its be the run yesterday that gave me all this energy? Its pretty counter intuitive but I feel fantastic!
I don’t have a running routine yet so there are still alot of things yo perfect, breakfast for example. I wasn’t sure if I should eat before or after my run, or both. So I had a handful of raisins and a big mug of green tea with a few cinnamon sticks to warm me up.
So once I got started i realized my planned route of4 miles was slightly ambitious
I was definitely feeling it in my legs from yesterday and it was cold! I’m talking -20C not counting wind chill. My fingers felt like they were going to fall off. I definitely need to invest in some good gloves.
I’m still really happy with my run, I did what i originally planned yesterday and ran 5k (3miles) which included a giant hill and a couple one minute walking breaks.
Oh yea, and I definitely do need to eat before running, halfway through my stomach felt like it was eating itself! I’ll get some pre-run snacks at work today.
Its still bright and early here and I’m just finishing off a bowl of protein-oat bran (recipe below).
I’ve got to say, carbs sure taste fantastic after a run.
I used a new protein powder I picked up at work.
If your looking for a tasty protein powder i wouldn’t recommend this one. The maca and flax together definitely make it taste bitter alone. I discovered that a few drops of stevia masks the bitterness really well and my oat ended up tasting really yummy.
The benifits of hemp and maca for women are tremendous. If you have the monthly blues, cramps, mood swings, cravings or all of the above, a tablespoon of maca will fix you right up and get you back on track. Hemp is also excellent at regulating flows and cycles (not to get to graphic, but we’re all mature ladies here are we not?).
Oat Bran a la Emma
1cup water
1/2 cup oat bran
1tbsp raisin
Stevia to taste (4-8 drops)
Bring water to a boil.
Mix in everything else.
Boil for 4-6 minutes.
Stir in.
1/2 cup unsweetened soy milk
2 scoops Hemp Protein Powder
2 tbsp ground flax seeds
Sprinkle with cacao nibs or topping of choice and enjoy!
I’m off to work.
I’m bringing home lots of goodies tonight. I do most of my food shopping on Sundays.
Cheers!
